SPRUCE: un botánico inglés en el Pirineo romántico
Acaba de ser publicado, por Libros del Jata, el libro con este título que recoge el viaje botánico del eminente briólogo Richard Spruce a los Pirineos a mediados del siglo XIX.
Richard Spruce ha pasado a la historia por su gran aventura en la Amazonía y los Andes, pero en su juventud ejercitó su vocación botánica en un viaje de prospección por los Pirineos, viaje que es poco conocido.
El libro es una mezcla de libro de viajes, biografía, plantas y briófitos, historia, costumbres, herbarios… y ha sido elaborado en un tono divulgativo, abierto al gran público y no solamente dirigido a los especialistas botánicos. Es una ventana a un pasado que, aunque no muy lejano en el tiempo, nos resulta remoto, por los cambios en el paisaje y en el paisanaje que han sufrido los Pirineos desde cuando Spruce los visitó en plena época del Romanticismo.

A book with this title has just been published by Libros del Jata, which describes the botanical journey of the eminent bryologist Richard Spruce to the Pyrenees in the mid-19th century.
Richard Spruce has gone down in history for his great adventure in the Amazon and the Andes, but in his youth, he exercised his botanical vocation on a prospection voyage in the Pyrenees, a journey that is little known.
The book is a mixture of travel book, biography, plants and bryophytes, history, customs, herbaria... and has been written for the general public and not only aimed at botanical specialists. It is a window onto a past that, although not very distant in time, seems remote to us, due to the changes in the landscape and their inhabitants that the Pyrenees have undergone since Spruce visited them at the height of Romanticism.
